Mum's got shot by the Germans SS

During the war, when you are young, you don't really realize the dangers that you are dealing with... you get wrapped in all the excitement.

This story tells the time that our mum actually got shot, not once by twice!!

There were some buildings in Hoenderloo that housed the “bad kids” from all ages, they were sent there to learn a trade (carpenter, electrician, plumber, etc)… they were relocated to make way for German occupation. Mum was visiting a friend of hers that worked as a cleaning lady for the Germans. Mum friend was forced to work there. She found out where everything is; she told mum that in the “nice” house the Germans were storing lots of guns and ammunition. Her friend new exactly the Germans daily routine and when it would be safe to go into the building to retrieve the guns. She would leave the room’s window unlocked on the second floor (where the guns were). At that time Mum was really physically fit, using the eave down-pipe to climb up to the unlocked window. Once inside she found the guns and ammunition and started to throw them out the window to her friends below. All of a sudden, Mum heard load footsteps coming up the stairs. Needless to say, she shot out the window and down the down-pipe as fast as she could go. Unfortunately, she fell and landed in the rain barrel below. The water was extremely cold! The German soldiers heard the splash outside, looked out, and seem Mum trying to get out of the rain barrel. Mum got out of the rain barrel and started to run into the woods. They shot her twice, one the leg and the other, a flesh wound on her side. With the help of her friends, she made it to safety. That was all Mum told me about this incident. Needless to say, she recovered, but still has the scars today, as a reminder of her past.
