Dutch counterintelligence, domestic sabotage, and
communications networks eventually provided key support to Allied
forces, beginning in 1944 and continuing until the Netherlands was fully
liberated. Some 75% (105,000 out of 140,000) of the Jewish population perished
in the Holocaust, most of them
murdered in Nazi death camp
One of the major “sins” (as Mum puts it) is the fact that she was a “spy”, finding out and relaying information of when, and where, the Nazi / German movements were going. This is a crucial part of the resistance and had to be done to save the lives of her fellow countrymen and allied soldiers
During the occupation of the Nazis, some of the lady friends were forced to work for the Germans, working as their cleaning ladies, cooks, seamstress, etc.. These ladies would find out any useful information pertaining to the German's activities and passed it on to Mum… in turn Mum would pass this on to the Dutch Underground… who would pass this on to the British. In a short while, the British would bomb / destroy the target that was given to them via Mum. Even though this information may have saved numerous lives, it became her the worst nightmare, as she had to live with the fact that she caused the death of some many German soldiers, soldiers that had family just like hers. This fact still haunts her 70 years after. She can still clearly see in her mind the destruction and deaths she may have caused... Yes, this is war, but she has to live with this for the rest of her life.
